Weird Arcana - Blue Concentrate (New Spell)

This odd spell is also known as Cugel's Relevant Admonition. The "gets blue" part is a later addition, probably from a humorist spellcaster.

Blue Concentrate
Evocation
Level: Sorcerer/Wizard 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Short
Effect: A projected waft of deadly blue against the target.
Duration: 1 round/2 levels
Saving Throw: Yes (see text) Spell Resistance: Yes

You project bolts of blue concentrate, through a ray attack, dealing 1d4 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d4) and forcing the target to succeed at a Fortitude save or fall prone. You can project one bolt of blue concentrate per round of duration. If you hit the same target again in the next round, he suffers 1d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d6) and must roll two Fortitude saves - one to resist falling prone, another to resist becoming fatigued. If hit a third time, the damage remains the same but the target is automatically fatigued (no save). A fourth hit leaves the target exhausted and a fifth provokes unconsciousness.

Blue concentrate causes bludgeoning damage and is, therefore, suscetible to Damage Reduction.
Any target that fails a Fortitude save against blue concentrate gets blue for 1d4 hours. Probably the worst and most offending aspect of this spell.

  1. Interesting but also potentially really powerful especially after the caster hits 6th level. If it was not force damage, say just straight forward pummeling/bashing damage, I do not think I would be as worried about it as at least DR would reduce it a bit (and it would not be the universal ghost sweeper).

  2. Excellent suggestion, thanks! I had completely forgotten about bashing/pummeling damage in spells and was actually a little worried about balancing issues with Blue Concentrate. Edited.
